EMMANUEL BURGIN

700 Words

“700 Words” harkens back to my reporter days at El Sol de San Diego newspaper, and, specifically, to my editor whom, facing a print deadline, would sit staring at her monitor, scrutinizing her layout, trying to visualize her print run, and seeing the “hole” in the day’s layout would shout across the room to me “I need seven hundred words on (fill in the blank).” And off I would go, dashing to a City Council meeting or a Board of Education protest or to police headquarters, wherever I could find a story to tell. So, it is with this column. I will find stories to tell. May they be non-fiction or fiction. And in case the story is considerably longer than 700 words, I’ll post it as two parts.
